Notification for appointment of Meritorious Sports persons in the Department of Posts, Kerala Circle in the cadre of
Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant / Postman
No Rectt/31-4/2008 dated at Thiruvananthapuram 695 033 the 10 th September 2012
Applications are invited from meritorious Sportspersons in the following disciplines for appointment as Postal Assistant, Sorting Assistant and Postman in the Department of Posts against the vacancies for the years 2004 to 2010 under sports quota in Kerala Postal Circle, including 7 vacancies set aside for special consideration as per the Hon. High Court of Kerala orders in this regard.
Meritorious Sports Candidates will be selected for appointment based on the instructions contained in the Department of Personnel & Training OM No. 14015/1/76-ESTT.(D) dated 04.08.1980 as amended from time to time in the following order of preference and on their performance in the selection trials.

Age relaxation upto five years (10 years for SC/ST candidates) will be available for meritorious sportsmen in both the above categories.
Note:- For the sportspersons already working as Gramin Dak Sevaks in the Department of Posts, for whom certain directions are available from the Hon. High Court of Kerala, and who wish to compete in the trials along with candidates from the open market for these posts, internal guidelines will apply.
Educational qualifications
(a) Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant:-
The sports persons who satisfy the above conditions may send their application in the following proforma on PLAIN PAPER duly affixing their recent passport size photograph.
ORIGINALS SHOULD NOT BE SENT IN ANY CASE
The application, duly signed by the candidate along with the enclosures, should be send in an envelope superscribed “Application for recruitment under Sports Quota” and addressed to the Chief Postmaster General, Recruitment Section, Kerala Circle, Thiruvanthapuram 695033 so as to reach on or before 10th October 2012 either by Registered Post or Speed Post only.
Application received by any other means shall be rejected. Application not signed by the candidate, application without photo of the candidate and without attested copies of certificates as required above and applications received after the due date are liable to be rejected summarily
The selected
candidates are liable to be posted anywhere in Kerala Circle. They will
have to participate in any sports activity pertaining to the discipline
under which recruited, that would be conducted by the Department of
Posts for a minimum period of five years from the date of appointment

The candidates who have represented the country in an INTERNATIONAL
competition with the clearance of the Department of Youth Affairs and
Sports.
Second Preference: The candidates who have represented and won medals or positions up to third place in the Senior or Junior Level National Championships organised by the recognised Sports Federations or National Games organised by the Indian Olympic Association. Between the Senior and Junior Levels, candidates who have won the medal in the Senior National Championship will get preference.
Third Preference: The candidates who have represented a University in an Inter-University competition conducted by the Association of Indian Universities /Inter-University Sports Board and have won medals or positions up to the third place in finals.
Fourth Preference: The candidates who have represented the State Schools in the National Sports/Games for Schools conducted by the All India School Federation and have won medals or positions up to the third place.
Fifth Preference: The candidates who have been awarded a National Award in physical efficiency under the National Physical Efficiency Drive.
Sixth Preference: The candidates who have represented a State/Union Territory/ University / State School Teams at the Levels (II) to (IV) above but could not win a medal or position in the same order of preference.
Second Preference: The candidates who have represented and won medals or positions up to third place in the Senior or Junior Level National Championships organised by the recognised Sports Federations or National Games organised by the Indian Olympic Association. Between the Senior and Junior Levels, candidates who have won the medal in the Senior National Championship will get preference.

1.In case of any tie among similarly placed candidates, preference will be given for their recent performance
2. For candidates serving as GDS in the department, some weightage will be given for their performance as members of the Circle team over the years.

- 10+2 Standard or 12th class pass with at least 60% marks, from recognised University/Board of School Education/ Board of Secondary Education with English as a compulsory subject (excluding vocational streams), 55% for Other Backward Classes and 45% for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes.
- Should have studied local language of the State of Kerala ie. Malayalam or Hindi as a subject at least in Matriculation or equivalent.
- A Pass in Matriculation from a recognised Board/University
- Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant :- Rs. 5200-20200 + Grade Pay Rs.2400 + admissible allowance
- Postman :- Rs. 5200 -20200 + Grade Pay Rs.2000 + admissible allowance

- Evidence of date of birth (SSLC Mark sheet etc)
- Prescribed Community Certificate in respect of SC/ST/OBC
- Proof of Sports Qualification and position achieved, received in Form 1,2,3,4,5 etc., from the competent sports authority concerned, duly attested.
The applicant should be prepared to attend the Open Selection Trials to be conducted at Thiruvananthapuram for the vacancies notified in the Annexure, at their own cost. No allowance shall be paid to the candidates for attending the selection trials.

Recruited Postal Assistants/ Sorting Assistants will have to undergo a
training of 48 working days and Postmen, a training of ten days, after
the appointment.
The Department reserves the right either to restrict the selection up to
the number of players required, or to cancel the recruitment, if so
warranted.
Any type of canvassing by the applicants in the middle of the
recruitment process will make their application to be rejected
summarily.
